Built in 1875, this Victorian-style home is in great condition. The hardwood floors throughouthave been refinished.
Early in the 20th century the property was referred to as "Mountain View Inn," when it served as a bed and breakfast for weary travelers. The original horse and carriage steps leading up from the main road are still in place.
The McNeil family of Oldfields, WV, built the house. The McNeils were one of the valley's most prosperous farm families during the 19th century, building several estate homes, include a sister home to Mountain View on land holdings directly across the South Branch of the Potomac River. Members of the McNeill Family also earned fame during the Civil War when they commanded a band of troops known as McNeil's Rangers, based around Moorefield, WV.
The house has 12 rooms, 3 bathrooms, public water, full basement and attic, several outbuildings, and is prominently situated on 3+/- acres rising about Route 220, just north of Moorefield, WV in the hamlet of Oldfields.
